New Age / Ania i Adam Witkowscy / 25 April 2008

New Age is the somewhat provocative title of an exhibition which is going to be held at the Wyspa Institute of Art on around the date of the birthday of these artists.
New age: a biological, generational interval but also a reference to the figure, which comes back in the culture of uninstitutionalised spiritual life, which is placed beside an explicit cultural format and fulfils social expectations.
This exhibition traces internal inconsistence and reflects rather the lack of certainty than ideological evidence. It is a reflection on culture as a cluster of system values and consciously and unconsciously absorbed cultural schemata.
The project absorbs many various aesthetics, which relate not only to historical art (Gauguin) but also to contemporary art (Warhol, Gilbert&George) and borrowings from pop culture.
It is the result rather of searching than of finding a reference system, an attempt to create a personal, conscious rhetoric but not one loaded with existing possibilities.
