The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' Schools of Visual Arts invites applications for a professor in sculpture at the Sculpture School Charlottenborg to be filled by 1 October 2009.

The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' Schools of Visual Arts is a higher education institution that through a two-year basic studies programme and a four-year study course at its eight Professor Schools, offers an integral six-year study programme leading to the candidatus(a) degree. The candidatus(a) degree programme, the MFA in visual art is offered by eight different schools, each headed by a professor. The Schools of Visual Arts' new professor of sculpture is expected to build an innovative platform for research and teaching that contributes to the development of a contemporary discourse of three dimensional sculpture.

The appointee must be an experienced and distinguished visual artist with a significant artistic practice within the subject field. It is a prerequisite of the appointment that the applicant is well recognized in the contemporary art field and that he or she has a profile in the exhibition world. Applicants with a wide theoretical knowledge of the subject field and who have practical teaching experience on a high artistic and pedagogical level will be given first priority.

Applicants are expected to be able to: 1) create an over-all study program for the school, including proposing a study plan that integrates new knowledge and relevant theory into the development of a contemporary discourse on sculpture; 2) in an original way, lay down a framework of a dynamic art education taking the students' artistic work as its point of departure including guidance of the students and taking responsibility for their final examinations; 3) perform the artistic production and research attached to the position; 4) coordinate the school's collaboration with the four laboratories that are attached to it; 5) work together with the academic staff in the planning of common educational activities; and 6) commit themselves to the continuous professional development of the institution in close cooperation with the rector and the rest of the academic staff.

The application must contain a satisfactory account of:

1. The conceptual basis of the applicant's own artistic practice as well as of the main areas of the applicant's artistic production particularly viewed in connection with the contemporary art scene.
2. The applicant's ideas and visions of a proposed study program and its planning, including how the applicant's artistic practice and the proposed program can have a stimulating effect on each other.
3. The applicant's pedagogical qualifications.

The application must contain a CV and a list of enclosed documentation. Documentation may be in the form of photos/slides of own works/projects, videos, articles, publications etc. It is stressed that the expert selection committee, who will evaluate the applicants, shall only consider the written application and the enclosed documentation.

The position is to be filled for a fixed term of up to 6 years. Appointment is on a group contract basis unless the appointee is already employed as a public servant in Denmark. The professorship is a Grade 37 position and the professor is paid a pensionable basic salary of DKK 502,399. The professor is granted a pensionable fixed-term employment bonus to be determined through negotiations between the Schools of Visual Arts and the legitimate negotiating organization of the appointee.

Appointment is according to Government Order No 1507 on the appointment of artistic/scientific staff at certain institutions of higher education under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, as of 14 December 2006.

Professors attend to the administrative work of their school and participate in the work of both councils and committees as well as perform administrative duties in accordance with Government Order No 497 given by the Ministry of Culture as of 21 June 1995.
